Sane Reporting in a Lunatic Time

The Spectator helps me stay sane. With so much garbage being broadcast, The Spectator is a beacon of light through the darkness. I send subscriptions to all my girls, and hope their husbands read them!!

There is an online comment that one should not read this publication unless one wants the views of a Marxist. As a journalist, who sees us steeped in "corporate" propaganda, er, I mean, "news," that ignores critical issues while pushing the dangerous agenda of "elites," I'll take my chances. At the least, it offers me information to use to balance and evaluate all the media hogwash I'm being fed.

False information

A few issues ago (I can't find it now, and the WS website is down, so I can't find it there) the Spectator ran an article about the Tea Party takeover of the government of North Carolina. It stated, among other things, that "4000 teaching positions were eliminated". When I googled this I found a few reports of individual teachers fired for individual offenses, but nothing about a mass elimination of teaching posts. Two knowledgeable friends in NC have never heard anything about it. One is pretty far left, and would almost certainly know about something like this if it had occurred. I wrote to the editor requesting his source; he did not reply. I conclude that the report of 4000 teaching jobs being elimnated had no basis in fact, and that the Spectator published a blatant falsehood, just as Fox "News" is known for doing. I have previously found left wing sources publishing half truths and implying falsehoods, but this is the first time I have found a left wing publication actually lying.

Middling Political Rants

This rag sheet is full of opinions that do not make sense, and misrepresentation of facts. I would not recommend this unless you want to look at the world through the eyes of a Marxist.
