3 Star Reviewintelligent but flawed
A review of The Economist Magazine, November 17, 2009

Economist may be the best news mag out there, "Time Magazine for grownups" as one guy called it, but at its hefty price it had to please me. I have two complaints: First and least, it whips through USA news with half a dozen articles and then explores, in depth, developments in countries that will never affect my life. Sorry to seem provincial,  but I'm one of those dummies who still can't draw a map of Africa without peeking. The other fault is what finally got me to cancel (thanks, MagLine, for your great service): Economist has subtle but rigid control over its writers. They want Obama to send more troops to Afghanistan (easy for Britain to say), and every article about any subject seems to slip in an editorial to "send troops already." Not ethical journalism, in my humble opinion.

4 Star ReviewEverything you need to know and more

The Economist is one of those publications that is great in the sense that it is truely global. If you ever wondered what happens in other parts of the world, from food trends to economic meltdowns, the economist is the magazine to get. Best of all, it's so packed with information (there are very few ads beyond classifieds), each issue is usually enough to keep you reading all week. If you can make it through an issue and say you really read and understood every article, you deserve a promotion!

The Economist gives a wide viewing of multiple topics.

It's viewpoint is more worldwide than Times and hits on many more subjects.  You never know what you are going to read about which means it is unpredictable and that in itself makes it unique as well as interesting.

5 Star ReviewGreat World News

I think of the Economist as World Press on steroids. It is chocked so full of great articles from around the globe that I simply can't find enough time to read half of them before the next magazine arrives. It is the only magazine I find worthy of subscribing to.

5 Star ReviewThe Economist offers excellent analysis and in depth articles.
