The New Republic is one of the best politics and culture magazines in the country and has enjoyed this reputation for over fifty years.  It gets first rate writers to review books on a wide variety of topics.  It also makes an effort to provide some diversity with respect to political viewpoints.  Moreover, it strives for a lively and interesting style, neither too flip nor too staid and predictable.

Filled with new ideas, thoughts, insights, etc. on politics, people, culture and the arts. Good serious writing, but not lacking a sense of humor or a feeling for the absurd.  You may not always agree, but so what? They read the damned thing on Air Force One.
