5 Star ReviewThe best for African-American women
A review of Essence Magazine, January 15, 2008
Submitted by: Mona

This is the only magazine that I will spend money on. I love the fact that it is targeted towards African-American women, young or old. The articles in this magazine are very educational, inspiring, engaging, and helpful. What ever it is, you will find something for you in Essence.

Every month Essence magazines has topics of ways Black women can improve on health, exercising, and being careful when it comes to relationships.   I also love to see who graces the cover each month.

5 Star ReviewA Great Positive Magazine for African American Women
A review of Essence Magazine, December 10, 2007
Submitted by: Ally from Washington, DC

I've been reading Essence for many years now and enjoy it more and more each year.  I appreciate the focus on the African-American woman, her beauty and strength but also her weaknesses and self doubts.  The magazine addresses the issues that affect the African-American community with opennes and objectivity which I think is important.  Its way for us to talk amongst ourselves, about our issues and learn of the diversity of our own opinions.  On the lighter side I love the beauty/fashion section and reading about the latest trends in hair and makeup for black women which is still not fully embraced by the mainstream.  Essence, keep up the good work!

5 Star ReviewThe only magazine worth reading cover to cover

Essence Magazine is the only magazine I read cover-to-cover.  You all do a wonderful job captivating the culture of the Black/African American female.

Thank you for all you do!  Keep it up!! God bless!

4 Star ReviewExcellent source of current information for women of color
A review of Essence Magazine, July 30, 2007
Submitted by: Anita from Virginia Beach, VA

Essence has the pulse of women (specifically women of color) in mind.  This is important because there are few magazines where the issues that affect us are put in the forefront.  I appreciate the specialized attention to the aspects of my life that are of great value to me and my family as an African-American woman.

2 Star ReviewIt is not what it useed to be.
A review of Essence Magazine, July 13, 2007
Submitted by: Woman of Value

I used to really enjoy Essence but I do not anymore.  I have subscribed to it for years and because I thought it was for african american women who wanted quality information.  Now it has changed dramaticall.  I do not think that it is for working or motivated women of color who have moral values and want to succeed.  On the cover they promote couples who have not committed to one another just because they are entertainers.  This couple had multiple children out of wedlock which is not what I thought the magazine should be promoting.  The articles have gone from informative to very sexual in nature and that is not what I am looking for.  I will not be renewing my subscription because I believe that I am no longer the customer that Essence is trying to market its magazine to.

5 Star ReviewExcellent Cultural Communication!
